I was Co-Editor on the feature-length sports documentary Girl on Wave, collaborating closely with Director Steven Esparza to craft a compelling story from hundreds of hours of footage. We focused on building emotional connection to the twists and turns of Sarah Hauser’s journey, paying careful attention to pacing, tone, sound design, and visual rhythm to convey her passion, strength, and determination. The documentary has since been distributed by The Orchard, screened on airlines, featured on Apple TV, won awards at multiple festivals, and used as a training resource by Blackmagic Design.
In addition to editing the film, I conceptualized and edited the official trailer; shaping the narrative to highlight the energy, emotion, and stakes of Sarah’s story while complementing the feature’s tone.
This project highlights my ability to:
- Edit feature-length documentary content with a focus on emotional clarity and narrative drive
- Craft trailers that capture story, tone, and character in a condensed format
- Use pacing, sound design, and cutting patterns to enhance engagement and impact
- Collaborate closely with directors and co-editors to maintain a cohesive vision across long-form projects
- Adapt complex projects for multiple distribution platforms while maintaining story integrity
The trailer demonstrates both my creative editorial instincts and my capacity to translate extensive documentary footage into a focused, emotionally resonant story.
